QUEST

Flight Path System

A Proven System to Turn Algebra 1 Stress Into A-Level Confidence

Algebra 1 doesn’t have to be a year of stress, tears, and late-night homework battles.

The QUEST Flight Path System is a small-group Algebra 1 program designed by Dr. Jack Burkett, a certified math teacher and school principal with 20 years of experience helping students master math. Your child gets the structure of a course, the support of a tutor, and the motivation of a small group, all focused on one goal:

Confident, fluent, A-ready Algebra 1 students.

This program is built specifically for current or rising Algebra 1 students who:

  • Are taking Algebra 1 now and feel overwhelmed, behind, or stuck on key concepts

  • Have missing foundations from earlier grades (fractions, integers, equations) that keep showing up on quizzes and tests

  • Are doing “okay” but want to lock in an A and be fully prepared for Geometry and Algebra 2

  • Learn best with clear explanations, step-by-step practice, and consistent feedback—not just more worksheets

If any of these sound like your child, they’re a great fit for QUEST.

Is the QUEST Flight Path System Right for Your Child?

We start with a research-based Algebra 1 diagnostic that pinpoints exactly where your child is strong and where they’re stuck.

From that, we create a custom Flight Plan:

  • Placement into one of three tracks:

    • Foundations Flight – fix gaps and rebuild confidence

    • Core Flight – stay on pace and lift grades into the A–B range

    • Top-Scores Flight – push into advanced problems, tests, and honors prep

  • Clear skill targets for the next 4–16 weeks

  • A simple scorecard you can understand as a parent (no jargon)

Students then join live Zoom sessions in a small group with peers at a similar level.

Each session follows the QUEST lesson model:

  • Quick Review – 5–10 minutes of targeted warm-ups and retrieval practice

  • Mini-Lesson – clear, step-by-step teaching of the day’s concept

  • Guided Practice – we work problems together and talk through the reasoning

  • Independent Practice – students solve problems on their own with support ready

  • Exit Check – a short skill check to confirm what “clicked” and what to revisit

We don’t just “get the homework done.” We build fluency, accuracy, and confidence.

As students move through their Flight Path, we:

  • Monitor quiz/test performance and class grades

  • Track speed and accuracy on core Algebra 1 skills

  • Adjust the Flight Plan every 4-week cycle based on data

  • Share parent-friendly progress updates so you always know how they’re doing

The goal: finish Algebra 1 confident, independent, and ready for what’s next.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

Here’s what a typical QUEST Flight Path enrollment looks like:

  • Grade Levels: Primarily 8th–10th grade Algebra 1 students

  • Group Size: Small groups (typically 3–8 students)

  • Format: Live Zoom sessions with recordings available when possible

  • Schedule:

    • 2 sessions per week, ~60 minutes each

    • 16-week core cycle (students can join at the start of any 4-week Flight)

  • Support Between Sessions:

    • Guided practice and homework suggestions

    • Optional homework help in designated sessions (if you choose that add-on)

  • Curriculum: Based on a super-set of Algebra 1 standards, aligned with most school and state expectations

What Your Child Will Master

Foundations
  • Operations with integers, fractions, and decimals

  • Solving one- and two-step equations & inequalities

  • Understanding variables and expressions

Power Topics for Ongoing Success
Core Algebra 1 Skills
  • Function notation and thinking

  • Quadratic functions (factoring, graphing, applications)

  • Word problems and modeling real-world situations

  • Test-taking strategies for unit tests, midterms, and EOCs

Every skill is intentionally revisited through spaced review and retrieval practice, so learning sticks long after the session ends.

  • Multi-step equations and inequalities

  • Linear functions, slope, and rate of change

  • Graphing lines and interpreting graphs

  • Systems of equations (graphing, substitution, elimination)

  • Exponents and exponent rules

  • Sequences and patterns

Results Families Can Expect

While every student is different, families typically report:

  • Higher grades: many students improve by one to two letter grades

  • More confidence: students participate more, stop avoiding homework, and feel “caught up”

  • Fewer battles at home: less stress, fewer tears, and fewer late-night math emergencies

  • Stronger readiness: Algebra 1 becomes a launchpad, not a roadblock, for Geometry and Algebra 2

How to Get Started

Step 1
Book a Student Success Session (Free)

You and your child meet with Dr. B on Zoom to:

  • Discuss current grades, challenges, and goals

  • Review any recent tests or assignments

  • Discuss QUEST Flight Path System programming

Step 2
Complete the Algebra 1 Diagnostic
Step 3
Join the QUEST Flight Path System

Your child completes our custom Algebra 1 diagnostic so we can precisely target their Flight Path (Foundations, Core, or Top-Scores.

We enroll your child in the right small group, share the schedule, and start their "flight path".

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this only for students who are failing?

No. We support students who are struggling, stuck at a B/C, or aiming for A-level performance. We simply match them to the right Flight.

What if my child is very anxious about math?

That’s actually our specialty. We build small wins, clear routines, and a supportive group culture so students feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow. Over time, those small wins add up to real confidence.

Do you offer 1:1 tutoring instead?

Our core program is small-group, but students who need extra help can get targeted 1:1 support inside our class platform and during designated help times. In some cases, we may recommend additional 1:1 sessions. If recommended, we’ll talk through options with you.

How do I know if my child is improving?

We track grades, assessments, and skill checks and share parent-friendly updates so you’re never guessing. You’ll always know which skills are improving, what we’re working on next, and how your child is progressing along their Flight Path.
